Blue Fin Pinot Noir 2011

Where did Wednesday go? More importantly, where has this entire week gone?! I’ve had some long days and short nights this week, and feel like I’m just spinning my wheels. But the wine shelves are full and my spirits are high.

I don’t mean to sound winey whiny lately. So if my less-than-stellar attitude is shining through, please bear with me. If you don’t know, I’m thiiiiiiiiis cloooooooose to finishing a PhD in Sports Medicine at a fancy pants school that makes me sound smarter than I am. I’ll take it.

Anyway, the problem with being thiiiiiiiiis cloooooooose to finishing a PhD is that no one told me how hard it is everyone told me this would be really hard and I chose to ignore them. So, my dissertation defense date is looming in the all too near future, and I’m pretty close to full out mental breakdown panic mode.

In reality, this just means that I’m drinking more and sleeping less. The epitome of health and happiness right here, y’all! 😉

Insert Trader Joe’s. Aside from the non-preventable anxiety I feel every time I hit the threshold of TJs, it’s a pretty neat place. Ignore the crowds and venture to the wine aisles, and happiness ensues. I spent $55 on 12 bottles of red wine last weekend. And somehow there are only 10 left… Blair and I (mostly just I) are doing some more market research of wines under $5 for our wedding reception.

Blue Fin 2011 Pinot Noir $3.99 🍷🍷

I don’t usually love Pinot anything, be it Grigio or Noir. It always seems a little watered down and plain. The Blue Fin is just what I expected. It smells faintly of fruit, and tastes about the same. Sweet-ish, smooth finish, a teensy bit dry on the finish (if you focus really hard).

It’s sippable, and probably a perfect red for a red wine hater or a non-wine drinker. But it doesn’t impress me much (cue Shania Twain). I would drink it again if someone else bought it, or if I was desperate. But on a grad student budget, this Pinot Noir is a pass for me. Their Petite Sirah, on the other hand, is a total go.
