Luxurious Sugar Scrub and Body Butter – DIY

Looking for an inexpensive way to pamper yourself or a friend? Try these super simple DIY projects. The recipes can be halved, doubled, tripled – whatever you’d like. Once again, thank you Pinterest.  I sent these to Jenny for her birthday!

Lavender and Peppermint Sugar Scrub
This DIY is the easiest thing you can do to treat yourself after a long day a work, a hard workout, or anytime! I use it probably 4 times a week, minimum. I got the idea from The Beauty Department, but I usually don’t love rose scents, and can’t get enough of lavender and peppermint, so the swap was a no-brainer.

Round up your ingredients. If you can’t find something at a grocery store, check a local health foods store, or Amazon. You’ll need:
– 4 ounces coconut oil
– 4-6 ounces raw sugar (or brown sugar)
– 2 ounces almond oil (or olive oil)
– Essential oils

Grab a clean jar with a lid – I usually use small mason jars or twist top Rubbermaid containers.
Add a large scoop of coconut oil to the bottom of the jar. Add in your essential oils and stir well. I used 9 drops each of peppermint and lavender. Pour the raw sugar on top of the coconut oil. Then, add a small amount of almond oil to the mix. If the scent doesn’t seem strong enough, add 2-3 drops of oil at a time until you’re satisfied. That’s it! Stir well before use, and enjoy! If the ratios seem a bit off for your liking, add more sugar or oil as you see fit.

*Be sure to make sure your essential oils are safe for skin contact before use!
*This can make your shower slippery – be careful!

Lavender and Peppermint Body Butter
This recipe is a little more time and effort intensive – but equally as decadent! Maybe more so. And it makes a lot of lotion. The recipe is originally from Rawmazing.

For the body butter, you’ll need:
– 8 ounces shea butter
– 4 ounces coconut oil
– 4 ounces almond oil
– Essential oils

Melt shea butter and coconut oil in a double boiler.

Let the mixture cool slightly. Add coconut oil and essential oils. Again, I used 9 drops each of lavender and peppermint oils. Next time, I’ll probably use a little more to get a stronger scent.

Place oil mixture into the fridge or freezer until it partially solidifies – this should only take a few minutes. Remove mixture from cold, and whip for a few minutes with a handheld mixer. This reminded me of whipping egg whites – it goes from liquid to semisolid to solid like magic right before your eyes!

Partially solidified – before whipping.

After about 2 minutes of whipping on medium-low.

After another 2-3 minutes of whipping. Peaks should form and hold.

Transfer to your clean, dry container and enjoy! This will harden as it continues to sit at room temperature.

It doesn’t take much to moisturize with this body butter. I only use it at night because it leaves your skin oily for a few minutes – but it’s completely worth it! Again, make sure your essential oils are safe for skin contact.

If you try these recipes, please let me know how they turn out! Enjoy!
